A court reporter career is certainly a unique job choice. Court Reporters undertake a range of tasks and there are many job opportunities available. If you work in criminal justice you will generally record the court proceedings, provide close captioning, translation services, transcribe depositions and more.

Judicial court reporters must transcribe all spoken words as well as details that take place during a court hearing. Then the reporter must prepare transcripts that are used by judges, attorneys and litigants. They are considered official documentation of the events of the court hearing and as such a court reporter must have impeccable attention to detail and accuracy, as well as concentration skills.

Court reporters must also be great organizers and time managers as the atmosphere is fast and pressuring. Deadlines must be met at all times when you are a court reporter as many people will be awaiting your work. Court Reporters have little room for error so this high pressure environment can be daunting at first, but as a court reporter you will learn to thrive in this work environment.

Court reports must also:

- have excellent English skills
- have good keyboard skills
- be comfortable with technology
- be able to stay focused and concentrate for long periods of time
- be able to work under pressure and to deadlines
- be a good listener

Most court reporters start out as trainees or juniors in the court system. The ultimate goal is to become a real-time stenotypist. This requires at least three years of training. There is court reporter training available in certain schools and colleges and there are several types and levels of certification depending upon the speciality path that you choose to take in the field.

Court reporters must be able to type at 225 words per minute or higher with machine shorthand. There will be exams to pass that test your written knowledge as well as your speed and accuracy.

The NCRA or The National Court Reporters Association have certified programs where you must undertake a curriculum before you can take a certification exam to become a qualified Court Reporter.

Court reporting is an exciting, demanding career and one that is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast paced, high pressure environment.

Becoming an RN is on the minds of a lot of people these days. When watching the news or reading the paper it is fairly common to hear about the nursing shortage and that nursing make good money. So you may be wonder how you go about entering the field of medicine as an RN, right? There are different ways actually and which way would work best for you will depend on your current situation and your career goals.

First of if you have no college then you have a couple of different options. Goals are important and will help you determine how fast you can finish an educational program that gets you ready to be an RN. Make sure before you sign up for a nursing program you research about the schools you are interested in and understand how the schools and programs differ.

If you would like to become a registered nurse as quick as possible and have no plans or interests in ever working in a management position, then an associates degree from a community college or university may be all you need to complete. Another option is a diploma program such as from a hospital that may allow you to earn you RN license. If you decide to go this route and then someday do change your mind you could always return to school to complete an rn to bsn degree at some point in your career.

Another option is if you current hold a bachelor’s degree in another field and wish to become an RN. There are programs out there from some universities that may allow you to complete a program on a fast track type of program. Due to the nursing shortage many people who wish to change careers are searching for different options of entering the healthcare field and this is one of them.

Whatever option you choose one type of program you may wish to consider is an accelerated nursing program available from some universities. These may or may not be applicable to you and your current situation. The easiest way to find out is to contact some schools to learn more about their program. One of the more common ones is an RN To BSN program offered by some institutions.

Do you really need to get a graphic design degree? It is true that many graphic designers have never formally studied, but rather taught themselves over many years on how to become a great graphic designer. Many were or still are freelance designers who also work for a company.

Whatever the case, a degree in graphic design can only strengthen your position when it comes to finding employment in this competitive field. Without a doubt, the top corporations who employ graphic designers will look for a degree. This is because a degree proves you have perseverance and commitment to the industry. Commitment is often a more important factor for employers as they want to be sure they are hiring a graphic designer they can rely on well into the future.

People interested in graphic design generally begin their interest in high school, sometimes even before that. Many students practice graphic design at home in their spare time. The affordability of high end graphic design software and capable computers has made this art more accessible than ever before. There are now millions of excellent graphic designers the world over, some working freelance and gaining 100% of their work online. These people do not have a graphic design degree but are very proficient in the art.

Graphic designers typically earn between $40,000 and $70,000, but this can vary greatly depending on the employer and whether the designer partakes in any freelance work to supplement their income.

Currently some of the most established and recognized places to gain a graphic design degree from are available both online and offline. These include:

Academy of Art University Online

American InterContinental University

The Art Institute Online

ITT Technical Institute

Westwood College Online

Penn Foster Career School

Penn Foster College

Most schools offer a wide range of design courses which focus on different areas, including computer animation, fashion design, television, media, interior design, web design, video game design and more. All of these areas require graphic design skills so you are not limited in the careers you can pursue once you are qualified with a degree.

If you wish to be employed locally and make graphic design a stable career for you then earning a degree is the best way to begin. It will win you points in the eyes of employers and will also equip you with the skills and experiences that you would otherwise miss out on.

An accounting career is a highly popular choice for many people. Although accounting may not be considered one of the most exciting professions, there is certainly a high sum of money to be made as an accountant. There are also many career opportunities and accounting careers options for qualified accountants. There are also some very interesting and exciting options for accountants due to the fact that virtually every single company and organization requires an accounting department. That translates to countless opportunities to live and work. In addition, there are many different industries to choose from according to your needs and interests.

It is estimated that there are over 1 million accounting positions in place currently in the United States, with that number growing every year. There are countless opportunities in government and private industry as well as a high number of self employed accountants and book keepers. Accounting provides the rare opportunity of choice as you can just as easily work for yourself as for someone else, or even do both. Teaching is also a possibility for qualified accountants.

There are several different types of accountants. These include:

- Audit accountant
- Budget analysis accountant
- Financial accountant
- Management Accounting
- Tax accounting

Audit Accountant

Auditing is an important aspect of any business. Audit accountants check accounting ledgers and financial statements. This sort of work gives an accountant excellent experience in the business environment. Internal auditing is becoming of increased importance and these accountants must check the books for waste, fraud, mismanagement and other discrepancies.

Budget Analysis Accountant

A budget analyst accountant must develop the financial plans for an organization, as well as manage them. Government and the private industry provide many budget analysis jobs.

Financial Accountant

These accountants prepare financial statements with information from the general ledgers. Financial decisions can also be made with the help of financial accountants. Depending on the organization they can have a say in planning, long term business projections, employee benefits and other aspects.

Management Accounting

Capital budgeting and business analysis are two parts of the organization that Management Accountants have a role in. They work alongside other managers to develop new business.

Tax Accounting

Tax accountants prepare personal income tax statements and business taxes.

These accounting jobs provide a wide scope of choice for any qualified accountant, making this field one of the most diverse and varied fields of work available.

Accounting Salary: What to Expect

If you are planning on becoming an accountant then you will want to know what kind of salary to expect. Unlike many other fields of work, accounting can encompass many forms. Four main sectors you can work in as an accountant include:

- Private Sector
- Public Sector
- Non-Profit Sector
- Self Employed Accountant

You may have already decided that you want to become self employed once qualified. Although this is a wonderful way to work as an accountant, it is generally advisable to seek employed experience before embarking on self employment. Many accountants work a full time job and also have their own clients.

All companies, corporations and governments have accounting departments. That makes accounting highly flexible and ensures a never ending supply of positions. Accounting is certainly one field of work that will never be made redundant. It is also difficult to outsource most accounting tasks to overseas markets due to the in depth knowledge required of the national and local economics. This makes accounting a very secure field to work in as well.

The medium annual salary of accountants in the US is about $38,000. Auditors are listed as having a similar median wage. Of course, there is scope and potential for much improvement in this field and generally those with experience earn much more than the median.

Some other median salaries in various sectors of accounting include:

- State Government: 35,900
- Federal Government: 43,100
- Local Government: 36,400
- Commercial Banks: 35,700

As you can see, gaining an accounting position within government is an ideal place to start due to the higher wages, benefits and relative job security.

The top 10 percent of accountants and auditors have an average salary of nearly $80,000 whilst the bottom percentage earns under $25,000. Without doubt this lowest percentage consists mainly of graduate and inexperienced accountants.

You will require a bachelor’s degree to work in accounting. Although this can have a short term financial impact, people can generally pay back their college fees quickly after becoming employed. Unlike other fields of study, accounting students rarely have a hard time finding a job after or whilst studying.

If you wish to improve your salary then consider a masters degree or study areas which focus on a particular aspect of accounting such as auditing, management accounting, corporate tax accounting, financial advisor and others. All of these advanced lines or work command much higher salaries and are highly interesting compared with regular accounting.

Most of it is very hard work with the three main parts of the process consisting of art, story line/plot, and programming. Video game designers must become an expert in one aspect of the process, but rarely in more than one due to the complexity and expertise required.

Video game designers work on games for consoles, computers, and portable devices. They also work on virtual reality games and programs. A video game designer is certainly a highly rewarding career that offers many opportunities. Video games are a multi billion dollar industry and the thirst for new games is becoming greater each year as stay at home entertainment becomes a larger industry than ever before.

You may be asking yourself, what qualities and skills are needed for a career as a video game designer?

The answer to this question will depend on what aspect of the design process you wish to involve yourself in. For example:

- Art concept: These are the people who draw the initial designs of characters and settings. You will need a highly creative artistic streak and drawing and/or computer graphics talent.

- Graphic/3D design: These people take the sketches and create them on the computer in 3D using complex programs. You will need excellent graphic design and computer software skills

- Story creators: These people create the entire plot of the game. You will need to be a good writer and a creative story teller with a great imagination.

- Programmer: Programmers bring the game together by coding the entire back end of the application. This is complex work that is generally done in languages like C, C++ and other object oriented programming languages.

- Project manager: After you have gained experience in one or more fields of game design you may consider managing an entire project which involves making sure deadlines are met and team members are on track.

As you might imagine, video game designers generally play a lot of games. They stay on top of new games and keep track of what consumers are interested in. That is the fun part of game design – you must play a lot of games in order to gain new ideas. The process of making the games is difficult and complex, however it is exciting as you create something from the ground up and watch sales grow as people buy your game.

Average Game Designer Salary

The average game designer salary varies depending on the specific field of work. There are many different departments in game design corporations. Some of the most popular positions are:

- Artists
- Animators
- Lead Designers
- Programmers
- Lead Programmers
- Technical Directors
- Audio Designers
- Music Composers
- Video Game Testers
- Lead Game Testers

The video game industry is one which is particularly vulnerable to industry ups and downs but it is currently going through resurgence, with video game sales on the increase thanks to the popularity of consoles like Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 as well as portable devices like the PS3.

The average salary is dependent on experience and position. Video game testers, although considered to have the most enjoyable job (often this is not the case though!) may earn the least. In fact, the average video game tester salary starts at just $25,000 although it can reach as high as $40,000. The lead game tester can earn between $40,000 and $60,000.

The highest paid people in video game design, besides CEO’s, are the Lead Programmers and Technical Directors. Lead programmers can command anywhere from $75,000 to $100,000. It takes several years experience in a regular game programming environment in order to take on the lead position. Technical directors have a lot of responsibility and earn between $90,000 to $120,000 per year.

The people who do the brunt of the work are the artists and animators (average salary is $40,000 to $70,000), game designers ($40,000 to $70,000), Programmers ($50,000 to $90,000) and audio/musicians ($65,000 to $90,000). Lead positions in these fields command an extra $20,000 or more on the regular salary.

After an employee has more than 5 years experience in the video game designer industry they are likely to be earning close to $100,000 per year, particularly if their skills have been growing and they are working for a leading game development company. Some of the most sought after video game developers to work for include:

- Electronic Arts
- Sony
- Blizzard
- Activision
- Atari
- Funcom
- Hasbro Interactive
- id Software
- Infogrames
- Konami
- Lionhead Studios
- Microsoft Game Studios
- Nintendo
- Rockstar Games

As you can see, it costs quite a sum of money to employ an entire team to make one game. The return on investment in the current market is excellent which means that game makers will continue hiring game designers and paying them very well.
