Do You Smell Like a Stinking Fish?

So far I’ve been talking about the interview and tips techniques, etc. Okay some of you are saying blah, blah, blah. Well lets deviate for a moment and let me tell you one of the things that used to just burn me up as an interviewer. When a candidate came in for the interview based upon a three to five star resume (at least that’s how it read) and the face-to-face interview took a deep dive into the candidate’s credentials, and the candidate was fishing themselves into a hole, I would get very irritated. I would think it’s time to play detective so I can figure out if this person is really who they have portrayed themselves to be.

Ok I was trying to be flavorful but another way said is if you embellish your resume to the point that it’s a lie, that company is never going to call you back. In fact, if you were recommended through a recruiter, the recruiter probably won’t continue to work with you. If you’ve done this, you already know I’m telling the truth.

Hey, we live in the age of information access, and there are a ton of resources available to do thorough background, education, and work history checks. A good interviewer is going to be able to detect right away that you are not who you are trying to represent. Now with the regular use of behavioral based questions one can determine the skill level and depth of involvement a person had in their current or prior positions. So, if you don’t want to come out of the interview process like a stinking fish, just be honest. It works.
