The first thing you should is take some time to really think about your previous work experiences, your education and life experiences. Use this time to not only think about the specific tasks you performed during these jobs but the skills you needed to complete these tasks and the skills you learned during the process. By doing this you are really starting to learn about how you can write a resume that will make you stand out.

Next it is very important to really think about what the employer is looking for in a potential employee. You will likely find all of the answers you need in the job advertisement.

This is because most job advertisements include information on the skills necessary for the position. This may includes skills which the employer considers to be critical as well as non-essential skills which are preferred. Armed with this information, your resume should be tailored to highlight the skills you have which will be useful in this position.

After you start to feel confident about the type of information you will provide on your resume, it is time to consider how this information will be presented. You have a number of options for formatting your resume. However, regardless of the style you select, you should make sure readability is carefully considered. The design should be clean and simple. One way to keep the design clean is to utilize page breaks between sections on the resume. There may be industry standards which determine the types of sections you should include on your resume. However, in general they should include sections for your education, your previous work experience and your objective.
