How To Interview At A Job Fair (Part 2)
You’ are at the job fair and you see folks being interviewed, or so you think. Well the types of interviews basically fall into three categories: Lens interview, mini-interview, and full blown interview. You want to maximize whatever type is made available to you.
Lens (screen) interview – two to three minutes and you’re out of there. This employer at this time just wants to get your resume and make an initial impression before deciding to spend any more time with you. Don’t cower over them, and try to keep the conversation going. Annoying.
Mini-interview – five to ten minutes if you are lucky. You need to have your 30-second elevator pitch of your background and position yourself as an ideal candidate for this employer. You may be asked to expand on the information on your resume. So be prepared. Try asking for a business card. Sometimes the recruiters will carry them, and if they are really interested in you, they will give you one. Now don’t harass them to give you a card, because you read this post.
Full Blown Interview – if the employer is conducting them, somewhere in the building. You just don’t walk up to a booth and are interviewed in this manner. You usually are pre-selected prior to the job fair and are interviewed at this location. Understand this is a real interview, and may be interviewed by more than one person. So be ready. Don’t let the chaos of a job fair water down the efforts you need to expend.
