Types Of Depression

Depression is a complicated illness. Depression is a disease that can linger and progress for months and years without detection . Studies have shown that millions of Americans will suffer some form of depression this year. 2/3 of these people, according to estimates, won’t seek treatment. In many cases the afflicted do not even realize that they are ill. It is normal in this day in age to fall prey to the stress that rules our lives. The road blocks in life have become more severe. Hand to mouth survival is common. The recent economic crises has created even more pressure to obtain and hold a job. Stress can give birth to depression.

Countless types of depression exist. Many of the labels are similar in meaning. There is mental depression, medical depression, clinical depression and manic depression. Severe depression refers to the most advanced form of the illness. Depression is brought on by many associating factors. One of these is simple biology, brain chemistry issues. Depression is also passed along in the genes. If your mother and great grandmother suffered depression it’s possible you will too.

Common factors can lead to different types of depression. Substance abuse can lead to depression. Rather it is alcohol or drug abuse, both has shown evidence to depression. In many cases the loss of a loved one has shown an enhanced possibility of depression. Mental depression historically has a stigma associated with it. Before being classified as a disease it was thought to be a defect in character. As a result treatment wasn’t applied in a way that could help the patient. Each depression phase has it’s own negative results. Therefore treatment requires early detection.

When it has become severe depression treatment is needed ASAP. Suicide often takes place in this final phase. The opportunities for help have passed because the cries for help haven’t been heard. Medications and therapy combine for a working treatment. There are also support groups that offer a helping hand. Natural herbs have also been found to work. Help is out there no matter the type of depression. If lingering signs of depression exist then please seek help.
